Olivier Ethgen MSc, PhD

Founder and executive director of SERFAN innovation

Olivier is a senior health economist and modeler.

He is Associate Professor of Health Economics at the Department of Public Health Sciences, School of Medicine, University of Liège in Belgium. He lectures in health economics (theory & applied modeling), decision sciences and pharmacoepidemiology. He also gives an introductory lecture on the emerging use of mobile health (mHealth) devices in medicine and public health.

Olivier is the Scientific Director of the Economic Evaluation of Medical Innovation Research Unit (EMIR), which is a joint research unit between the Department of Public Health and the School of Business & Management of the University of Liège. His research interests include financial modeling of patients and market access strategies (notably risk-sharing agreements/managed entry schemes), multi-criteria decision making and population-based modeling.

Olivier holds a PhD in Public Health Sciences and an Executive Master in Management from the University de Liège (Belgium). He also holds a MSc in Mathematical Economics from the University of Paris I – Panthéon Sorbonne (France). He has nearly 10 years of experience as an economic and financial modeler gained in the private sector at IMS Health, Bristol-Myers & Squibb and GlaxoSmithKline Vaccines. His experience spans all types of healthcare technologies including drugs, biologics, vaccines, devices and diagnostics.

He is the founder and Executive Director of SERFAN innovation, a consulting company dedicated to Strategic Economic Research and Financial ANalysis of medical innovation.
